Volunteers in Friends of Groups, who give their time and energy to improving where they live, attended a free capacity building conference.
Called love where you live the conference was organised by Cheshire Wildlife Trust, Chester Voluntary Action and Cheshire West and Chester Council to provide practical advice and training in:
- Recruiting/retaining volunteers
- Site management plans
- Social media/press releases
The conference also featured a selection of case studies from Friends of Groups in the borough, provided a how-to guide to develop your friends of group and gave the opportunity for networking.
The conference was announced at a celebration event for volunteers in January by Cllr Louise Gittins, Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing. Speaking at the event she said: “Everyday across our beautiful borough someone somewhere is volunteering and helping our borough thrive for everyone who lives here.
“Volunteers have a vital role to play in our communities and I am truly delighted to be able to offer this conference – free of charge – to all volunteers who work to enhance where they live.”
She added: “And we haven’t forgotten about all the volunteers who support people, in the autumn we will we be inviting these groups to a celebration event.”
