This new community garden was a former housing site, which had become a hot spot for illegal activities and arson.
- The transfer of the space to local residents
- The creation of a community garden
- Greater local community involvement in the space
- The development of a strong relationship between the parties
The green space was an area of concern to residents and required ongoing attention from the Police, Fire Service and the Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC).
Local residents began a conversation with CWaC about taking ownership of the space to create a community garden.
CWaC was keen to support this and transferred ownership to the local resident group.
Residents began by raising funds to install railings around the space. They then worked closely with CWaC’s locality team and their local councillor to gain the transfer of a BBC garden.
The space is now a very successful, well respected community garden.
